The end of a long week at my desk. Did a lot of writing and researching for my dissertation. Last night, I took my Martin guitar and joined a bluegrass session at our local "Alte Schmitte" (old smithy). First time I did this, and I have not had such fun for some time. They do this every month, and I will join them in the future whenever I can. There is a big bluegrass festival here in Thun this weekend; some excellent players joined us last night. I will see whether I have time to go.
The "Alte Schmitte" is a remarkable piece of incarnational cultural engagement by Christians. Edi and Eva Geissler were members of my former church; they rented this old place in the heart of the village, installed their shoemaker workshop, sell drinks and food and have concerts, polit-cafés, discussions, fun - all kinds of art and good, personal entertainment. The atmosphere is excellent, and everyone loves to go there.
