Regula and I spent 3 weeks on the road going to Ireland and back in our old Sven Hedin Camper. We had a marvellous time - over 2 weeks of just sunshine and warmth. What an interesting place this country is! The people are very friendly and the countryside and seaside is often impressive and beautiful. As we in Switzerland owe the Celtic-Irish monks the gospel, we visited most of the old churches and settlements from the 6th century. But also in form of Guinness or Irish Whiskey, they have good spirits. The economic crisis is present like everywhere, but one can see that Ireland has experienced much economic success in the last years. You see new houses and streets everywhere - the Irish love huge entrance gates and beautiful gardens, often followed by a - well, excuse me - rather mediocre house. The vegetation is almost tropical in certain places - truly a Green Island.
As an Irisman whom we met on the ferry said: Ireland is more than Dublin (although we liked Dublin a lot) There are so many beautiful places to discover! We did montain hikes and long bicycle rides, so it was not only sitting and driving. With a motorhome, you can stand and stay whereever you like; we spent many nights at interesting places, from the seaside with wild cliffs to the parking lot of a Pub. I enjoy when I have my "house" always with me. And I am grateful that we could do 4000 km without a panne or an accident. Our last night we spent just under Ross Head Lighthouse, the oldest working lighthouse in the world, dating from 1220 and built by - monks!
Now back at home, I prepare for a busy fall season with much teaching and seminars in Switzerland and abroad.
Cool! Schön, dass du wieder da bist. Äh, schon wieder lang nicht mehr gesehen ;-).
