Watched "Ray" in our home cinema. Liked the movie - excellent music and a great actor. "Genius loves Company" is one of my favorite CD`s.

The last Samurai

Saw "The Last Samurai" with my son Andrew (14) last night. Well made, left people thinking. The question in our discussion afterwards was "do we have something to live and die for". Andrew thought this would instantly become clear when we would be challenged. I think this will have to be practised a whole life long as the Samurai people are always pracising. We were glad that we had a Living Divine Being to live and die for and not an abstract principle like "honour" or just an emperor. And that this God first lived and died for his people.
The other question at the table later was why societies who have the highest values - like truth and honour - always seem to be the most belligerent ones. Can we not have a high esteem on truth and be peaceful / loving at the same time? The reason must be the presence of evil. In Western Europe, we are trying to maintain (after 2 world wars) a non-belligerent culture - at the expense of total relativity and trivialization of higher values that have been giving meaning to people for many centuries. We call this tolerance, but for many people it equals meaninglessnes.

The Passion of Christ - WOW

I just got an e-mail from a church leader who has been a Christian for xx years and thought he knew everything under the sun. He was invited to see a pre-screening of Mel Gibson's movie "The passion of Christ". Here are some excerpts of what he and some other visitors write: "Neither of us were really
prepared for what we viewed. It's really hard to find the words to tell you how life-changing this film was for both of us... This movie changed our lives forever. The room was full of the sound of weeping and loud sobbing, including our own. I told Nathan on the way home that I only wish that I would have seen it as a young teen.

It is so fitting that the whole movie begins with a black screen with the text of Isaiah 53:5, "But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed"... I fell in love with Jesus on Monday night. Either for the first time, or all over again." And another visitor reports: "Well,....let me just say that I am speechless, moved beyond words and sobered by what I saw last night....The movie was in a rough cut version...but still I thought a very finished state,...special effects had not been added yet, nor was the music complete....still it brought uncontrollable weeping from everyone.. I couldn't stop crying through the whole movie And when the movie was over, there was complete silence in the church..."
So, after LOTR, lets go and see the Lord himself on Feb 25th.

Poor Mr.B.

Just heard on the radio that Mr. B. alias R.A. spent some months in the US with a depression because his movie did not go well, and that he will not make movies for another year. How easy it is to make a funny face and look totally different at the inside. Suggestion for the next movie: Mr. B. and his midlife crisis...

The King is back

Saw LOTR 3 today. Lots of feelings and emotions and tears. Why do Hobbits cry so much? Maybe its part of their DNA. On the other hand, even Gandalf CAN laugh, and Frodo can finally stop turning his eyes upward. But the real hero is Sam. I would like a friend like that...
