The crazy King

We ended up spending a few days in Füssen, near the castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. Got tickets for the new Musical Ludwig 2 - a wonderfully romantic experience in view of his favourite castle.
Ludwig II. was king of bavaria from 1864 to 1886. Hopelessly romantic, he developed a castle building addiction (quite a rare form) which totally ruined his personal finances and upset the ministers so much that they had him declared mentally insane. He was taken captive, brought into a mental asylum and was found drowned in a lake the next day. Nobody knows whether it was suicide, an accident, or murder (as the musical suggests).
Anyway, great experience to dive into a piece of German history, not too long ago. And interesting to see what power psychiatry even as a young science has...

On our way home, we visited our friends Peter and Evi Schäublin who are even greater globetrotters than we are. Peter owns a graphics atelier and has been a wonderful partner in focusuisse all these years. They are great Christians, hosts and love good food and wine.
Next morning, we returned home safely, celebrated the birthdays of two of our kids on Sunday and returned to the desk - lots to do. Autumn is here, my favourite season.

last days of summer

We spend a week of vacation in Southern Germany, following the "Deutsche Alpenstrasse". Some rain, but also some of the last warm moments of this summer. We enjoy our Chevy, our bikes and each other.

On Vacation

Holidays. Spent a week with my wife in Southern France. Besides touring the Cote d`Azur one more time and staying with a cousin of my wife in his big house in Antibes, we went farther north to the region of the Grand Canyon du Verdon. Lived in a little tent for 3 days and took some great bike trips through a magnificent country.

Then, we returned to Switzerland and celebrated my mother in law`s 80th birthday. She is still very young at heart, learnt to use the computer lately and now learns how to play a Zither that we gave her as a present. It was a great family day, everybody having fun, eating well and giving lots of presents.

Now we stay in Laax, overlooking the Rhine valley and enjoy quiet vacation days – no duties for another 2 weeks! Will do a lot of reading.

A night on the Ranch

Spent a Cowboy-like evening at Flying W Ranch in Colorado Springs. Great time with the whole DAWN crew. Here you see me with Jim Montgomery, the founder of DAWN, an his wife Lyn. A father and mother in Christ and great friends.
I love Colorado Springs. If you ever need a home there, I know an excellent realtor.

Time with friends

Back home. Saturday night I roamed Berlin with Kerstin. She took me to several artist's exhibitions, a world that I was not so familiar with before. Realized that you can talk to artists - they are real people - and you do not even need to be afraid that it cost something. Visited one special "installation" where the artist had fun making changes in colours, visible through light and glass. Well.....
Spent Sunday and Monday with Peter and Evelyne Schäublin and the Focusuisse team; great friends who travel a lot. Watched in amazement their latest multimedia show of their recent Africa trip. And as a motivation, we watched the DVD of the "making of a winner team" of the Alinghi Crew. I did not know what it takes to win the America Cup. If we as Christians had only a part of the same zeal for our "eternal" goals....
